Please renew your membership today! Please send a cheque to renew your membership to Dr. Tim Hogan (our Treasurer) for $110.00 made out to the Ottawa Academy of Psychology. You may send it either to Tim directly at 30 Avon Lane, Ottawa, On, K1M 2E1, or to the Ottawa Academy of Psychology at P.O. Box 4251, Station E, Ottawa, ON, K1S 5B3. If there have been changes to your coordinates or proficiencies, please ensure that you notify us by including a note with your cheque.
We would also kindly ask that you encourage your colleagues to join. Psychologists and Psychological Associates are welcome as are individuals in supervised practice.
The Academy provides a friendly venue for people to meet and network three times a year at our dinners. Interesting guest speakers present at these meetings. Recent examples include Barbara Fradkin, psychologist/mystery novelist, Clarissa Bush, CPO Council member, and president, the head of the English theatre at the NAC and others. We also welcome interesting speakers at the spring joint meeting of our Academy with the Ottawa Academy of Medicine/Psychiatric Division.
Importantly, the Academy lobbies on behalf of Psychologists. For example, we wrote to HPRAC on about our concerns with their recommendations about the College of Psychotherapists and Registered Mental Health Therapists of Ontario.
We also have continuing education workshops. In 2008 our line-up includes a workshop on psychotropic medications Psychologists should know about and a short series of seminars on psychodynamic psychotherapy led by Dr. Mel Segal. We offer certificates of attendance to all Academy members who come to our continuing education endeavours. The Academy also runs a Mentorship Group for early career and Psychology graduates in supervised practice.
The Academy also has a web site (http://www.ottawa-psychologists.org/) with information for the public and for members, and a membership directory which includes the member’s areas of proficiency. Many physicians refer their patients to the Academy web site for self referral to a Psychologist or Psychological Associate. Finally, we run a referral service, listed in the yellow pages, for the public and professionals to receive names of members who are willing to see new clients.
Also, please note that renewing members must renew before February 28, 2008. Renewals after that date will be assessed a $25.00 late charge. Nonrenewal by June 30, 2008 will be interpreted as your wish to terminate your membership. We sincerely hope that you will continue your membership, and enjoy all of the benefits. Thank you.
